Designed to Help Seniors Live Independently
(Philadelphia, PA) - City and state leaders joined InnovAge and NewCourtland Senior Services to celebrate the grand opening of InnovAge's Pennsylvania LIFE - Henry Avenue Center and NewCourtland's Apartments at Henry Avenue, located at 3232 Henry Avenue. The event highlighted a unique combination of personalized healthcare services and affordable housing, all aimed at frail seniors, at the same location.
Known nationally as the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, LIFE is an alternative to nursing facilities designed to keep older adults independent and living at home for as long as safely possible. LIFE provides comprehensive, coordinated care led by clinicians and includes primary care, dental and vision care, in-home care, specialty care coordination, transportation, and social engagement.
“Our passion and mission at InnovAge are to provide services to the most vulnerable seniors to help them age in their own homes with dignity. The LIFE program is the best way to do that, ”said Maureen Hewitt, InnovAge president and CEO. "Our focus is on bringing LIFE to program to more eligible seniors, and we look forward to serving more of them with the new Henry Avenue center."
The new InnovAge LIFE center has the capacity to serve 440 participants annually in the 18,333 square foot facility. The new LIFE center offers multiple day rooms, a large physical therapy area, a primary care clinic with five exam rooms, a dental suite, and a warm, inviting dining room.
NewCourtland's Apartments at Henry Avenue is a multi-phase project. The Terrace Building, which opened in May, includes 49 newly-built, affordable one-bedroom and efficiency apartments designed for seniors age 62 and older. The Pavilion Building, slated to open by the end of 2019, will add another 36 units to the development as well as a 3,600 square foot commercial space.
“The 49 apartments unveiled today will ensure that the seniors, who live here today, and in the future, can live independently in a safe, secure, and affordable environment. The Apartments at Henry Avenue represent a continuation of our commitment to go where the need is greatest and provide housing to those who need it most, ”said Joe Duffey, President and CEO of NewCourtland Senior Services. “While the LIFE Center and the senior apartments comprise a large part of this site, they mark only the first steps in a long-term plan to redevelop and re-energize the entire 13-acre property. “
The Henry Ave. facilities are at the former site of the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute. InnovAge's Henry Ave. LIFE center is the first of two new centers that were agreed to as part of InnovAge's acquisition of the LIFE program in 2018.
